The Mariinsky Theatre has established a reputation, in Russia and abroad, for producing young singers of remarkable talent. This reputation is nurtured by the “Young Singers’ Academy of the Mariinsky Theatre”, created by Valery Gergiev in 1998.

Following the successes of previous such evenings, the Mariinsky Theatre Trust is again presenting outstanding young artists of the Academy especially selected to perform in London, by Larisa Gergieva, Artistic Director of the Academy.

Our Chairman, Lady Solti, will be the host for this exclusive evening. The evening will begin promptly at 7pm in the magnificent Livery Hall with a recital of Russian, French and Italian operatic repertoire and song. After the recital there will be a champagne reception in the Drawing and Exhibition Rooms followed by dinner in the Livery Hall. The magnificently proportioned Livery Hall, with its ornate ceiling richly decorated in gold leaf, will be lit by four spectacular chandeliers dating from 1835. Almost 200 real candles will create a magical ambiance for the recital and dinner.

Since the first Gala Recital in 1997 over forty young singers from the Mariinsky have performed in fifteen separate evenings. Many of these artists have subsequently developed international operatic careers, including Ildar Abdrazakov, Alexey Markov, Yulia Matochkina, Evgeny Nikitin, Olga Pudova, Ekaterina Semenchuk, Daniil Shtoda, Vladislav Sulimsky, Olga Trifonova, Yury Vorobiev and Dmitry Voropaev.

The Mariinsky Theatre Trust is grateful to JTI for its ongoing support of the Mariinsky Theatre and particularly this recital evening by young adult singers of the Mariinsky Academy. This valuable assistance builds on the long-term relationship between JTI and the Mariinsky Theatre in St Petersburg.

Proceeds from the evening will assist the activities of the Mariinsky Theatre Trust to support the Mariinsky Theatre and its initiatives.
